Sun conure

Sun conures are strikingly beautiful birds, maturing from mostly green juveniles to an adult plumage of brilliant golden-yellow, orange, and red, earning them the nickname "Sun Parakeet." These parrots are known for their incredibly loud and shrill vocalizations, which can be heard for miles in the wild where they live in social flocks. They are also highly intelligent, playful, and affectionate, often described as "cuddle bugs" who can form strong, loyal bonds with their owners and can live for 15 to 30 years in captivity.

While popular in the pet trade, the sun conure is unfortunately Endangered in the wild due to habitat loss and trapping. In their native South America, they are highly social, living in flocks of up to 30 birds, and they are one of the species that mate for life, forming monogamous pairs for breeding. They use their feet like little hands to hold and manipulate their food, which consists of fruits, seeds, and nuts.
